Not only am I going to share how I like to dress this refreshingly marvellous concoction, I am also going to give you a gin fizz ratio so that you can mix and match your flavours all year around. Think of this as your Pimms alternative.
There’s a little video here for all you visual learners to show you how, but basically, a gin fizz, is 3 parts alcohol, 2 parts sour, 1 part sweet topped with soda or sparkling water. Today i’m mixing gin with Saint Germain (a fab elderflower liqueur) for a little extra seasonal something and dressing it with fresh herbs, edible flowers and berries inspired by Cafe Levinsky and the Gazoz book. (I’ll give you my accessory options alongside the ingredients below for ease.)
For a batch I like to make 10x the single recipe below (mainly for ease of calculations). It will keep in the fridge for 5 days. And don’t forget the importance of ice with your drinks, the bigger the cubes the better.
Gin Fizz
- 25ml Gin
- 25ml St Germain
- 25ml sour (fresh lemon and lime juice)
- 25ml elderflower cordial
- soda or sparkling water
- ice
Garnish Options
- lime wedges or slices (dried, dehydrated or fresh)
- fresh or frozen blackberries
- rosemary stalks
- mint leaves
- basil leaves
- elderflower leaves (if you manage to forage any)
- edible flowers
- cucumber slices
If you are making one cocktail, combine the Gin, St Germain and lemon & lime juice in a tall glass or wide tumbler over good amount of ice (the bigger the cubes the better to avoid dilution). Stir together, top up with some soda soda and garnish.
If you are making a larger batch, I find it easiest to multiply by 10. Combine the Gin, St Germain and sour in a jug or bottle and keep in the fridge until ready to use and top up with soda. Do not add the ice or the soda until you are ready to serve.
