In Conversation With………….Laurel Kratochvila & Eyal Schwartz
Thursday 29th September 2022, 7pm
To celebrate the publication of her mouth watering book New European Baking, please join me on the 29th September at 7pm for an intimate evening in conversation with Laurel Kratochvila, of Fine Bagels fame in Berlin. We will be talking with Eyal Schwartz, former head baker and co-owner of E5 Bakehouse, who is featured in Laurel’s stunning book, all about second (or third or fourth) careers, the communities built around small businesses, the movement of small artisan bakeries, following our passions, the appeal of using our hands daily to create and how both Laurel and Eyal found their way home to bread.
Snacks from New European Baking alongside natural wines curated by Le Balto, (Laurel’s fabulous new wine bar – yes, she’s a woman of many hats) will flow all evening to accompany our conversation.
Tickets for the event are £28 including a glass of wine and samples of some of Laurel and Eyal’s delectable recipes. Places are limited so do not hesitate! (Please note, this is not a Supper Club but an informal gathering and conversation).
Copies of New European Baking and Hackney Wild will be available for purchase on the night and you can pre-order copies.
To book, please go to the shop page on the Building Feasts site.
“I opened New European Baking expecting a collection of great recipes, but after reading it I came away with so much more. This book is a mediation on passion, soul, and terroir, as told through the stories of the artisans and friends who’ve inspired Laurel in her own creative journey. Buy it for the meticulous, step-by-step sourdough instructions, craveworthy croissant tutorials, and road-trip escapism; keep it for an edible lesson in pursuing your dreams, one loaf at a time.” Adeena Sussman
Building Feasts Supper Club in aid of Great Ormond St. Hospital
Thursday 13th October 2022, 7.30pm
I am so thrilled to be opening my doors again and welcoming you back around my tables. The first Supper Club of this new season is a new kind of special as it’s in honour of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and I will be donating ALL the proceeds from the night to their charity.
In January 2021, in the thick of the second lockdown, my then 15 year old son (and the second in my gang of four) underwent emergency brain surgery at GOSH to remove a massive and previously undetected tumour. Every twist and turn of his story and recuperation thus far has met a miraculous outcome.
To celebrate his recovery, I am doing what I do best – gathering a crowd of people for whom I will lovingly cook a feast, all in support of the incredible team who saved William’s life.
Please join me on the 13th October 2022 at 7pm for a Supper Club to salute this great story of resilience, strength, bravery, determination and care.
For anyone who cannot make this evening, or would like to make an additional donation to GOSH I have set up a justgiving page for the event to contribute to their pioneering medical breakthroughs that change the lives of many thousands of children each year, both in the UK and globally,.
Thank you for giving me the chance to publicly thank all of those who brought us to where we are today and to all of you for your continuous support.
Please note: I will release the menu a week before the event. All food will be sharing family style. Please do let me know if you have any dietary restrictions.
